After finishing off a very dominant preliminary round in their ice hockey debut, the Falkland Islands will play in their first ever championship thanks to a stellar 6-3 victory over the Rio Grande Dragones at the Copa Invernada in Chile.

The past few days have been very memorable for the smallest hockey nation on the planet. Just over a month after announcing their intention to move from the gym floors to the ice, the Falkland Islands scored an 8-2 victory over Santiago Yetis from Chile on Thursday, a huge win to start off the tournament. Just a day later, the Islands had a 9-2 lead after just the first period of play, eventually beating Kotaix by a score of 14-3 to stay undefeated. The win meant that the team had already earned a birth in the finals with a game still left to play.

Their competition for Saturday, the Dragones from Argentina, had already secured a spot in the finals as well. Led by Ryan Bahl, a player with experience in the United States of America, the Island team made sure to take down their opponents by a score of 6-3, their lowest scoring venture but still a solid effort. The win will likely give them the momentum they need to move into the finals with the advantage, having completely dominated their competition so far.
